Start Out in Online Jobs With GetAFreelancer

Freelancer is an online job site, to be found at getafreelancer.com. It is one of the first and still one of the most popular online jobs sites. People who need content written for their Internet sites (Freelancer calls them 'buyers'), post their job adverts on this site. These freelance writing jobs can then be bid for by members of Freelancer looking for writing jobs (Freelancer calls them 'providers'). Many many buyers need contractors on lots of projects on a daily basis.

It is simple and free to sign up for Freelancer and then bid for the writing jobs. There are two levels of membership, the basic, which gives you 23 bids per month and 'gold' membership which costs you $12 per month and gives you unlimited bids. Some buyers specify gold member bids only and these tend to be the better paid projects for the more experienced providers. Freelancer is very good at emailing several times daily all of the new jobs that are registered on the site. From the list, the providers decide which ones fit their skills and bid according to how much they want for their work and how long it will take them to do it. Generally the online jobs tend to go to the lowest bidders

When you join Freelancer you specify what categories of work you are capable of, for example, writing, proof reading, editing, data entry etc. Freelancer then notify you by email of all jobs that become available. It is very easy to follow any projects and bid for them. Freelancer do not require providers to prove their competence and it is a good starting point for people who want to establish a tack record of service provision. Since both buyers and providers are encourage to leave feedback about every project performance.

The Freelancer payment system is very good in principle but very slow in practice. Great for the site's cash flow but frustrating for the providers. Once a buyer and a provider have agreed to a project deal the full price is paid by the buyer into an escrow account. Freelancer are the third party that holds the money until both parties agree the work is satisfactorily completed. The instant money arrives in the escrow account Freelancer take their 10% commission. If something goes wrong in the project the provider has to reclaim the commission and contacting Freelancer is not straightforward.

There are four different ways for providers to withdraw money from their Freelancer account, including PayPal and a Freelancer debit card. Unfortunately Freelancer only authorize withdrawals on Monday each week (as long as it isn't a holiday) and it takes at least five days for the money to be transferred. So if your project finishes on Friday you will not get your money for at least two weeks.

All in all Freelancer is a good starting place for writers or programmers to get into online jobs and build a track record of references. You can sign up here -

Hi, this is Nicole from Rent a Coder.Rentacoder provides access to programming, writing, illustration, even data entry jobs. (You can get a sense of the broad scope of work available here: http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/SoftwareCoder

I'd like to point out a few differences between our service and services like Freelancer since those differences could influence your satisfaction and earnings.

Guarantee of Payment:

Freelancer doesn't allow you to verify your time by punching in and out of a real-time system, and cannot conclusively prove to the buyer that you were working. As a result they do not guarantee payment, and if the buyer does not wish to pay you, you may end up with no money.

Rent a Coder allows you to verify your time spent on a project by punching in and out of a real-time card application which records your desktop and webcam. The end result is indisputable proof that you've worked and deserve payment.

Bid Limit:

Workers on Freelancer cannot place more than 30 bids a month unless they pay a subscription fee (which also reduces their commission fee from 10% to 3%). With limited opportunities, you may not be successful with a service that limits your ability to bid.

Rent a Coder offers free and unlimited bidding without subscription fees or any other types of hidden fees.

Arbitration:

Freelancer limits arbitration to projects with milestone payments of more than $30. And its mandatory pre-arbitration processes allow an abusive buyer to stall the start of arbitration (and prevent you from accessing your money) for weeks.

At Rentacoder, we offer arbitration on all projects free of charge and we test your deliverables to make sure they meet requirements so that you can get paid. We also prevent abusive buyers from stalling the start of arbitration. As a result, 45% of our arbitrations are completed under a day. 75% under a week. We additionally publicize the detailed rules of how our arbitrators make their decisions.

There are other differences as well. I invite everyone to compare the 7 major services through this link to learn even more: http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/DotNet/misc/C

If you have any questions, please let me know. You can also call in to talk to a facilitator 7 days a week, or email us (see http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/misc/Feedback
